Now I Understand…

We had a very peaceful and relaxing transit out of Turtle Bay towards Bahia Santa Maria – right next store to Magdelena Bay. It’s a little closer to Bahia SM and not as far to get to the anchorage area so we’ll stop there.  Plan is to leave tomorrow morning for Cabo so we round the point early in the morning. The winds whip up at the end of the Baja Peninsula in the afternoons and we’ll just try to avoid that.
Carol had the 4 – 8 AM watch this morning and she just couldn’t wait to get the fishing pole back out. And yes, it was another beautiful sunrise…what is one to do! The first hour or so was quiet and then the little fishies woke up. We got a couple of very good hits – one we were quite glad that got away as I doubt we could have gotten in the boat let alone to the boat. Then a beautiful 15lb Dorado hit and Carol expertly got him in. Roger de-hooked him and he is now safely in the refrigerator for tonight’s dinner. Well Carol is certainly enjoying this fishing stuff while Roger is cursing under his breath every time the little buggers bleed all over his clean deck. We decided that we really didn’t have space for any more but Carol really wanted to continue fishing. So any future catches today go on the catch and release program.Â
As we were about to give the fishing thing a rest, the line went wizzing out at a high rate – now we had the big one (this isn’t even a fish tale)…this one was over 40 lbs and stood up to Carol’s chest height (I just took the pictures which will be on the website shortly). It took quite awhile to get him aboard and we did in fact return him to the sea – a donation to the fishing gods so that we may receive more gifts from the sea in the days to come.
Now I understand why everyone on the boat has to have a fishing license (besides raking in pesos for the Mexicanos) – it took all three of us to get this fish aboard!
