Cutthroat Update – Around Cape Flattery
Jul 11th, 2009 by Elise
We had a great sail once we got around Cape Flattery…thru Hole in the Wall. It was flat calm the entire way down Juan’s Strait. Once we rounded the Cape, the winds continued to freshen and stayed in the 20-25 kt category until around 4AM this morning. Then it pretty much died out; however, the USCG was discouraging bigger boats from entering the Columbia River Barge and in fact closed it to small vessels…so onward we go. The weather looks to remain good for Cutthroat sailing so our current plan is to just continue on to San Francisco. Charlie and Kathryne are fine…a little surprised at the ferocity of the seas (especially at night when the boat makes wierd boat noises and rolls a lot). They are anxious to get to San Francisco! It’s been raining much of this morning and we had some serious fog late yesterday and most of the night.
At the present rate we should be in San Francisco Bay on Tuesday afternoon.
We’ll keep you all posted. Everyone is fine and having fun!
Best wishes from the “Crew of the Cutthroat”
Elise, Roger, Charlie, Kathryne and Bob
